This piece is a lovely choice for programs that desire a range of performance options for their ensemble. Possessing strong Eucharistic themes —with special focus on sacrifice, Christian life, and unity— it is appropriate for almost any liturgy. The original hymn tune by Willcock, PANIS VITAE, is refreshingly new yet familiar sounding, making it a simple melody to learn and remember. Its setting features the choir on all four verses, variously used in unison or full SATB harmonization, including a descant on the final verse. The keyboard, guitar, violin, and cello parts, as well as an additional hymn version, further this piece's accessibility for ensembles of all sizes.
