This piece is a meditation on hope, and on God’s goodness and mercy. Particularly suited to the season of Advent, it asks the Lord for light and guidance in our lives. It is intended to be versatile; repetition may be used at the director’s discretion, and it may be lightly doubled at the keyboard. The piece starts by stating the melody simply, sung by the altos alone, but builds in intensity, voice by voice, to a luminous climax on the word “shine” in its final statement.
