This piece is effective for use as a Gathering Song, a song during the Preparation of Gifts, as well as during the Communion Rite. The ostinato refrain and verses lend themselves to a variety of performance options. For instance, a cantor may sing the verses while the SATB choir and assembly sing or hum the ostinato refrain quietly. While the text speaks of longing and hope, the overall feel of the piece is one of comfort.
