This setting of Psalm 118 includes two separate refrains (“Alleluia” and “This is the Day”) and two different translations of the verses, which greatly expand the utility of the piece including after the Epistle at the Easter Vigil and throughout Eastertide. The simpler tones which set the Lectionary translation of the verses could easily accommodate any Gospel Acclamation (“Alleluia” refrain) during the whole of the Easter season, or indeed any time of the year (outside Lent). The vibrancy of the “This is the Day” acclamation is well-suited for use at baptisms within the Mass. It is scored for SAB choir, cantor, descant, keyboard, guitar, solo instruments I & II in C, and solo instrument in B-flat.
