This arrangement of the 16th century carol was originally intended for unaccompanied voices, though it can work well with the organ doubling the voice parts on the refrains. While this may be performed as a choral piece, the catchy refrain also lends itself to assembly participation. With soloists or a schola proclaiming the Christmas story in the verses and full choir and assembly responding on the refrain, it can serve as an exciting gathering piece for the Christmas season.
