This piece can be performed by any combination of voices. The chant-like duple meter of the four verses is framed by the 3/4 meter of the intro and codetta. The verses themselves alternate the simpler unison setting of the first and third verses with a harmonized two-part setting of the second and fourth verses, which also feature a solo instrument accompaniment. For more solemn occasions, consider varying the choral texture for each verse beyond what appears in the score.
