Fr. Caniglia’s musical setting of Fr. Hagan’s text is an apt reflection on the lyrics of the first verse, which encourage us to meditate upon the Word of God; it is contemplative and beautifully placid throughout. Entirely diatonic, its tasteful use of added-note chords maintains harmonic interest. So, too, the shifting musical textures of the more elaborate of the two presentations in this octavo: unison Verse 1, a cappella choral Verse 3, instrumental interlude, and fully scored final verse with choir and descant. A simplified SATB hymn version is also included to aid in assembly singing.
