After an initial unison statement of the familiar Gregorian chant punctuated only by handbell dyads, Farrell uses the organ to usher in a lush, harmonically innovative setting for SATB choir. Care is given to texture, with a compelling mixture of a cappella choral sections, organ interludes, and—towards the end—combined forces for a rousing fortissimo close. Entirely in Latin, this piece could be effectively used during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and liturgies with a particular focus on the Eucharist or those that include themes of joy, God’s love for us, and our love of God.
