This beautiful renaissance melody by Orlando Gibbons, 1583–1625, has been exquisitely arranged by Craig Kingsbury for SATB choir, descant, organ, flute I & II, and cello. There is also a part for bodhrán (hand drum) available in a downloadable PDF. Gibbons’s melody has been paired with a modern-language translation of an Old English text by the seventh-century poet, Caedmon. In addition to his translation, Harry Hagan, OSB has added two additional original verses that carry the creation story of Caedmon’s verses forward and link them to Christ. The text is perfect for themes of creation, light, and the power of God.
