With text based on the antiphon to the Magnificat of Evening Prayer for the Solemnity of Corpus Christi (attributed to St. Thomas Aquinas), augmented by additional writings from St. Paul and St. Augustine ("may we become what we receive"), Manalo has crafted a Communion song that is both beautiful and catechetical. It is scored for SATB choir with descant accompanied by keyboard and guitar. Its foursquare melodic rhythms, stately harmonic progressions, and the Latin incipit "O sacrum convivium" of the refrain text give this piece a kind of timeless majesty that reminds us not just of the solemnity of the sacrament but the call to action contained therein.
