O the Depth of Love Divine

This festive concertato anthem for SATB choir, brass quartet, timpani, and organ is like a free fantasia or improvisation on the familiar hymn tune, ADORO TE DEVOTE. Using jazz-like chromaticism in spots, but with none of the rhythmic swing associated with jazz, the piece, nevertheless calls to mind jazz forms, most clearly stating the tune at the beginning and end of the piece. The Wesleyan text is a reflection on the Transubstantiation and, as such, this piece will be most appropriate as a Communion anthem for advanced choirs singing at high, celebratory liturgies.
