Both the Christmas midnight liturgy and the Easter Vigil have imagery of Christ shattering the darkness. “Out Of Darkness” attempts a musical link, allowing us to sing the connection of Christ’s birth, death, and resurrection, and our waiting for the end of time. This song’s joyful refrain and three musically unique verses all have an anthemic, four-square cast, giving the piece an inspirational, uplifting character. It is written for solo voice, SATB choir, keyboard (the composer suggests that piano and organ be used together), guitar, and trumpet in B-flat.
