This Good Friday lament Psalm eloquently echoes the Isaiah reading ("he was pierced for our offenses, crushed for our sins") and powerfully anticipates the Passion account of John's Gospel. Yet the major mode, flowing accompaniment, and easy singability of the refrain offer a hopeful interpretation of the themes and underline the verses' themes of refuge, trust, and, ultimately, salvation.
