Using the famous shape-note tune PROMISED LAND, this setting focuses on Mary's role as the first disciple; the six verses thematically traverse her entire life: from the Annunciation and the birth of Jesus, through his passion and death, and, finally, the Resurrection and her own Assumption into heaven. Scored for solo voice, SATB choir, keyboard, oboe, and assembly, this is a striking and effective Marian song.
