Based on the traditional In Paradisum text, this simple and gentle piece may be used during the funeral liturgy, or it may be used at the graveside to allow people time to bid farewell to their loved one. "Song of Farewell" can be sung with or without accompaniment, and is structured around a continuing ostinato refrain, which can be increasingly embellished to build the song's intensity by adding verses, harmonies, descants, solo instruments, and a fuller keyboard accompaniment.
