Based on Psalm 27— with lyrics based around care of the sick and death/dying, but also healing, hope, and resurrection— this assembly song is especially appropriate for funerals, anointing of the sick, and All Souls Day. With a flowing musical texture in triple meter and a straightforward harmonic scheme reminiscent of American folksong, the piece is scored for SATB choir with descant accompanied by keyboard, guitar, and two solo instruments in C or B-flat.
