Metrically cast in 9/8 and employing some bluesy harmonies throughout, this verbatim setting of Psalm 27 has the musical character of a jazz or gospel waltz. The SATB choir only joins in on the refrain, supporting assembly participation, while each verse— for cantor alone— gets its own unique musical setting to accommodate the varying lengths of each verse's text. This compelling setting is accompanied by keyboard and guitar.
