This sixteenth-century tune, widely known as “Greensleeves,” received its present text in the 1800’s. The arrangement of this carol, another lullaby, should be sung a cappella and reflects the modal flavor of the original by preserving the ambiguity between D natural and D sharp at different points in the melody line. The text of the verses is shared between the upper and lower voices, and the dynamics indicate where the emphases should fall.
